Introduction

IP25 is a highly branched isoprenoid (HBI) alkene synthesised by some sea iced iatoms. Its presence in Arctic marine sediments has recently been used as a proxy for past spring sea ice occurrence and as an indicator of wider palaeoenvironmental conditions for different regions of the Arctic over various time scales.
